Justice

If the situation in Ferguson, MO doesn't have you upset, or at least thinking about things, you probably don't know enough about it. Fix that here.

This article from Times talks about how "Ferguson is not just about systemic racism — it's about class warfare and how America's poor are held back."

And this piece from Politico addresses the situation in Ferguson specifically, addressing how the police are handling the First Amendment:
"Each of these tactics is an unconstitutional restriction on the rights of speech and assembly in its own right. But this constantly changing whirlwind of restrictions further deepens the constitutional sinkhole Ferguson has become. When residents are bewildered as to when, where, and how they can gather and speak without risking arrest, that uncertainty itself casts a shadow of intimidation and self-censorship across the right of free speech. And of course, that uncertainty is often happening at the business end of a high-powered rifle."

If you are progressive white person who doesn't know what to do about it, take a look at this article. And try to remember the ideals on which this country was founded. We still have a long way to go.

Official Photos

The professional photographs came back for the place cards I'd created for the wedding in March. It was a very ornate escort table, and I was happy these could be a part of it.

Congrats again to the Dolohanty couple!

Wedding Gift

by Kristen DeLap

In June, my dear friend Allison married the love of her life. It was an absolutely gorgeous ceremony, and she was the happiest bride I've ever witnessed.

The photographer really captured the day on her blog here. And the gift I gave Allison and Matt is highlighted in her picture reel. I made a potholder to accompany some rustic pottery pieces they'd registered for, and bound it all in the signature red baker's twine, which Allison loves. See below.

And here are Allison and Matt on their lovely day.

Kindness

This is from a commencement speech by George Saunders to Syracuse University in 2013. The speech on kindness went viral and is now becoming a book. This is an exceptionally thoughtful passage.

A baby quilt

by Kristen DeLap

They should have received it in the mail by now, so I can finally share the baby quilt I made for Wilder Flynn, the new son of James and Jennifer. It's the kind of thing you'd never make for your own kid, because you are too sleep deprived, but I was happy to craft this for the new little dude.

Inspired by the colors of the ocean near their California home, the front is a blue ombré, and the back is a tonal print. All machine stitched. Hopefully he has much chance to use it when he gets home from the hospital!

Congrats, Flynns!

Maya Angelou

Her own words about great souls are some of the best to speak of her own death. We can be better because she existed.
